ABOUT THE STUDIO

When I first started teaching years ago, I used the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music method, which gave me a solid foundation for supporting my students—but I quickly realized that it didn’t reflect the needs of most of my contemporary artists. The song selections and vocal ranges were limiting, and the classical focus left little room for creative flexibility for my modern singers. I wanted something more tailored, more relevant, and more fun!

So I took a short break, went back to school to study music production, and reimagined the studio from the ground up. Today, AJ Music Studios offers a fresh, immersive experience designed for today’s singers. Students sing with professional-quality backing tracks tailored to their ideal key and tempo, and in-person students even get to practice with a stage mic and real-time studio effects like EQ, Compression, and Reverb—so they can experience what it feels like to perform live in a fully equipped environment.

Whether you're training for fun or aiming to record and release your own music, you’ll receive two studio-quality recordings per term, plus a year-end concert to share your growth and artistry with friends and family. To commemorate the journey, I also create a personalized CD and digital EP for each student with their four annual selected recordings.

IN-PERSON VS. ONLINE LESSONS

 

Whether you're local to the Kansas City area or joining from across the globe, I offer lesson options that meet you where you are!

In-Person Students have full access to the studio’s live performance environment, including mics, effects, and rehearsal with studio gear. They’re also invited to perform in the year-end concert, and receive both physical and digital versions of their four recorded songs.

​

Online Students still receive the same level of personalized coaching and custom-tailored backing tracks, and their final recorded songs are professionally mixed and mastered using studio effects. While they won’t have access to real-time effects during their lessons (due to technical limitations), the production quality of their final recordings is just as polished. Online students are welcome to travel to KC to participate in the year-end concert if they wish—but it’s totally optional!

 

RATES & CONDITIONS

 

My goal is to make your experience smooth, fun, and creatively fulfilling. Lessons are $120/month and include 40 weeks of 30-minute/lesson instruction plus 4 hours of complimentary studio production time each year. The year is divided into two terms—Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter, and spans for a total of 10 months of teaching.

A $50 Concert & Music Fee per term helps cover things like your customized sheet music, backing tracks, and concert venue rental. For in-person students, post-dated cheques for the 1st of each month are due at registration. For online students, I set up monthly PayPal PAD payments to keep things simple.

​

If you miss a lesson, no worries—make-up lessons are offered once a month on Mondays, and you can carry up to five per term, based on availability. I ask that students commit to the full term if possible, but if something changes, just let me know with a month’s notice so I can offer the spot to someone else.
